Chakmak
Chakmak is a Hindi monthly magazine for children of age group 8-14. It is published by Eklavya, a non-profit, non-government organization that develops innovative educational programmes. Wipro Applying Thought in Schools is financially supporting it.
I chanced upon this magazine some time back and was absolutely delighted to read it. In this magazine, the approach to reach children's imagination is quite different from other magazines which depend heavily on unreal world of fairy tales and cartoon animals. The articles and stories in this magazine don’t transport the child to another world but arouses his fascination with this world only. The magazine connects the lives and imagination of children with the REAL world in a very brilliant way.
With illustrative and colourful pages, the magazine has a very vibrant look. The content ranges from articles on art, science, history, cinema, sports, to fiction and non-fiction stories, games, activities, puzzles and poems. Chakmak also provides a platform to the creativity of children; there are four dedicated pages for the same under the banner ‘Mera Panna’ in which poems, riddles, stories and paintings by children are published.
