LIC (Life insurance corporation of India) is India's premier insurance provider and has wide coverage across the length and breadth of India. Since its inception, LIC has supported a large number of merchants and agents who aid the registration and premium collection. LIC is the biggest insurance provider in India and its asset value is approximately ₹2,009,119 crore as of 2016.

LIC Merchant and Agent

LIC has a strong network of LIC merchants and LIC empowered agents, who work on behalf of LIC and help in registering people for insurances and subsequent premium collection. LIC merchants and agents are paid commission for their services as percentage of premium collected for policies sold through them.

We don't have up-to-date number of merchants / agents as per Jan 2017. To give you an idea of scale, LIC had around 11.9 lakh merchants and agents as of Mar 31, 2014.

LIC Merchant Commission

If a merchant or agent sells a LIC policy, he/she will go on getting the commission regularly whenever the policy holder will pay the premium. Commission for first year of policy ranges from 4% to 25% depending on type and term of the policy. Commission for second and subsequent year of premiums range from 2 to 7.50% of premium.

LIC merchant portal is available at merchant.onlinelic.in and it allows all LIC of india empowered agents, SBAs and merchants to login to LIC website. This portal allows merchant and agents to manage premium collection including invoice generation and online payment.

Unable to View/Print Premium Receipt/Invoice

"The receipt will be generated in a new window. Click
here if the receipt is not generated automatically." however the new window is not being
opened.

LIC merchant website uses pop up to show premium receipts and invoices. This sometimes causes problem. To solve the problem, either:

  1. Click on 'Click here' and it will open receipt in a fresh window
  2. Go to Merchant tools and click on 'Queries' to obtain receipt no and payment date. Once you have receipt no, you can click on 'View Receipts'

Invoice deposited at LIC Branch or Bank but shown as pending / unupdated

Sometimes agents and merchant successfully deposit invoice amount with a lic branch or bank, but the transaction is not updated in LIC merchant portal and it shows as 'pending'.

To fix this, ask the bank or lic branch to do republishing. If this problem persists, contact lic merchant customer care at dev_support@licindia.com or

LIC merchant - Online payment of Invoice using Net Banking

Invoices involving cash transactions can be paid online on LIC merchant portal using net banking. To pay invoice, click on Merchant Tools, followed by Pay Invoice Online. It will show all pending invoices, select invoice, and click on Submit. It will ask you to confirm your invoice payment amount and then you can select your bank and it will take you to bank portal for payment.

After successful payment, it will bring you back to LIC website and show your PG ID and you can print your payment acknowledgement if needed.

As per IRDA Instructions Premiums collected are to deposited within 24 hours. Agents and Merchants are required to use Netbanking facility to deposit the premium as soon as possible.

News on LIC Merchant

LIC Agents and Merchants to get PoS machines for digital payment

Due to ongoing efforts of government to promote digital payments, LIC will also start providing PoS (point of sale machines) to LIC merchants and agents so that can take premium payments using debit card and credit card. Currently there are around 20 lakh LIC agents / merchants and to start with LIC is planning to provide PoS machines to 2 lakh agents. As per one estimate, around 90% of LIC premiums are collected through merchants and agents.

Good news for LIC merchant: Govt transfer 2% stake in ITC to LIC

Indian Govt has transferred its 2% stake in ITC to LIC in a deal worth Rs 6700 crore. Life insurance corporation of India (LIC) has picked up the stake at a price of Rs 275.85 a piece. This is a good news for LIC merchants as LIC has got it at a discount of 0.15 paisa over previous closing price (Rs 276)
