How to Search Your Name in Voter List (Karnataka)

The Chief Electoral Officer of Karnataka has published the latest electoral rolls for 2014 loksabha election on Jan 31, 2014. (Year of Revision - 2014, Qualifying Date: 01-01-2014. Type of Revision - Summary Revision, Date of Publication: 31-01-2014 )

Please ensure that your name is included in the voter lists at the CEO Karnataka Website . Please note that if you have voted in previous elections, have a voter ID card, and have not shifted your residence, even then your name may have got deleted from the electoral rolls. Please verify and restore your name if deleted.

If your name is not in the voter list, then you cannot vote, even if you have a voter id card !!. On the other hand, if your name is in the voter list but you don't have a voter id card, you can still vote with any govt issued photo card (Driving license, passport, Aadhar card , ration card etc) to identify yourself. (The list published on Jan 31 is not final though and there will be further revisions before the elections and CEO Karnataka Website will be updated accordingly).

( Update : New revision of the voter list has been made on Mar 26 and it is available now on the http://ceokarnataka.kar.nic.in/ website )

Apart from ensuring that your name appears in the voter list, you can also find your voting booth details and serial number on the site.

Here are the ways to check if your name is there in the voter list or not:

  1. Search by name To find your name in voter list, go to http://ceokarnataka.kar.nic.in/SearchHome_New.aspx. Enter your name (There are serious spelling mistakes in some records, so enter only a part of your name. eg: If your name is Jagannatha, then try 'jagan') , your Relation Name ( the one that you filled in form 6 - e.g. your father name or your husband name), and your assembly constituency. Search results will give you your Voter ID no., your Serial Number, your Part number and your voting booth details.

    • Note: Many people are not finding their name using 'search by name' even though their name is in the voter list. This seems to be a problem with the website. The fix is to enter your first name only in the name field and first name of your relation in the 'relation name' field

    • Details :While searching my name in the rolls, I spotted a problem in the 'search by name' feature of website. I was getting the error 'No record found. Enquire with your Electoral Registration Officer(E.R.O). To know your E.R.O click on 'Know your ERO' link from left menu.'. By luck, I figured out that when I entered my full name, i.e., first name + last name, it was giving the error. Same problem appeared in the 'relation name'. Entering full name was giving this error. When I tried entering only first name in name field and only first name in 'relation name' field, I got the results. So the key is to enter only first name in both the fields - "name" and "relation name". To know what is required to be filled in the 'relation name', see below under FAQs.

  2. Mis-spelt Names : Search in the pdf files of the booths in your area
This is important. Please read this if you are unable to find your name in the list by using the the above mentioned search facility.
Sometimes the "Search by name" feature does not work for varied reasons. For e.g., one of my friend was unable to find his name because there was a spelling mistake in his father's name in voterID card! There are many cases where the govt. makes mistake in names, age, relation names, etc. In that case, if you search by name, you will not get any results because your name or your relation's name (father's/husband's) is spelled differently in voter list. So if you are unable to find your name in the voter list, please follow the process mentioned below.

Go to this page. Select your district and then assembly constituency. The full list of polling booths (with address) in that assembly constituency will be displayed. Download the pdf files of 4-5 polling booths nearest to your residence and search your name (with Ctrl-F) in those pdf files. Try these various combinations for searching : your first name, your last name, your relation's first name and your relation's last name.

Also, please note that sometimes two persons in the same family can get different polling booths. So don't assume that your polling booth will be the same as of your family member/neighbour. Search in pdf files of all the polling booths nearest to your residence.
